'Bring my baby back:' woman's 'handler' tells undercover cop

FORT WAYNE, Ind. ---In every city, there’s the underbelly, the part of society you want to

wish away, ignore, disavow.

How desperate was the woman who offered anal sex for $40 on June 3 to an undercover officer while she was sitting in an alley running east to west north of East Washington Boulevard?

There’s no mention of the hour this conversation took place. It probably could have taken place any hour of the day or night.

The woman asked the undercover officer if he did “ice,” street slang for methamphetamine. Then she went off and came back to say she needed the $40 first to give to “him,” 59-year-old Bruce E. Brewer, who also interacted with the officer, court documents said.

“She can ride with you bro,” Brewer told the cop. “Give me the money though.”

Then, “bring my baby back.” Once the undercover handed over the 40 bucks, Brewer repeated “bring her back to me.”

The woman got into the unmarked police car and the officer drove off, giving the special “take down” signal that was “pre-determined,” according to the probable cause. A traffic stop ensued.

She was taken into custody, but there is no record of her arrest for prostitution or drugs of which the officer found 1.3 grams of methamphetamine on her, court documents said. Last year, there is a record of an arrest for begging.

Brewer was charged with promoting prostitution, a Level 5 felony. The undercover said the interaction showed all the signs that Brewer was her “handler,”  the polite term for pimp.

He has a trial setting scheduled for June 16.
