FORT WAYNE, Ind. ---Fort Wayne police have now made two arrests in the March 20 homicide of Chase Watson.
Jaiden Landis, 18, is accused of shooting Watson, 16, in the backseat of a white Kia Optima around 9 p.m. in front of Watson’s home in the 3000 block of Pennsylvania Street, east of downtown.
But he wasn’t the only one shooting inside the vehicle, according to homicide detective Mark Bieker’s probable cause affidavit.

Now 16-year-old Cory J. Conley has been charged with (felony) murder and robbery. Indiana law doesn’t differentiate between murder and felony murder, which means murder took place at the same time as another crime.
Inside the Optima, there were guns a-plenty. The three Snider High School students pulled up in front of Watson’s home so Conley Jr., could swap $400 for a Glock Clone handgun, court documents said.
Landis told Bieker he’d paid $300 for a Glock Model 48 handgun from Victim 2 who was at the wheel of the car and is now the only one not named of the foursome. Landis was in the back seat opposite Watson.
Landis also told police that when Watson got into the car, he handed a gun up to Victim 2 and that Victim 2 said he wasn't going to give it back, turning it into a robbery.
Victim 2 was shot inside the car along with Conley and Watson and must be recuperating from very serious injuries. On March 20, he had to be intubated whereas Conley was uncooperative at the hospital and finally talked in the presence of his father, court documents said.
Conley said he was in the front passenger seat counting out his money. The counting surely stopped after the shooting started, but of the supposed $400, detectives found $198 in the vehicle.
Three cell phones left behind after the bloody drama helped detectives piece together what occurred. Ring doorbell video showed muzzle flashes burst inside the vehicle when all four were inside and the audio clearly records multiple gunshots, court documents say.
After all the shooting, Landis was seen fleeing the car on foot and running toward Kitch Street. He was on his way home with a bullet graze.
Watson was able to get out of the car and run up to his home, but died in his mother’s arms, according to reports. Medics could not save him.
Watson briefly spoke to Conley and the unnamed victim from the front of his home before going back inside. It would be interesting to know what he said.
Conley who collapsed outside the Optima with a leg injury called 911 to say he’d been shot and that his friend (Victim 2) was dying.
Officers found three guns in the car. Victim 2 had a fully loaded handgun on his lap and a stolen handgun underneath him, but police say he would have been “physically unable to place that gun under his body after the shooting started, due to his injury."
Landis told detectives the 9mm handgun he shot inside the car was ditched at a nearby apartment complex.
Conley is scheduled to have an initial hearing Friday, April 4.
